Operation Northwoods was a false flag operation proposed by the Department of Defense to have the CIA commit acts of terrorism on American military and civilian targets. It was shot down by President John F. Kennedy, and many believe is the reason for his assassination.

Some of the acts of terrorism in the proposal included; the remote control of civilian aircraft which would be secretly repainted as US Air Force plane, a fabricated ‘shoot down’ of a US Air Force fighter aircraft off the coast of Cuba, the possible assassination of Cuban immigrants, sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas, blowing up a U.S. ship, and orchestrating terrorism in U.S. cities.

The goal of the Operation was to blame the attacks on Cuba to justify a war with Cuba and take down Fidel Castro.
