Efforts to discover the Philosophers Stone were known as the ‘Magnum Opus’ or great work. The philosopher’s stone was the central symbol of the mystical terminology of alchemy, symbolizing perfection at its finest, l enlightenment, and heavenly bliss.

The stone is said to be able to turn lead to gold, heal all forms of illness, and prolong life. It has many descriptions bust most commonly is referred to as a transparent stone red in color, sometimes orange or a reddish-purple. In other descriptions it is a red powder.

Many alchemist throughout history have sought to create the stone, including Roger Boyle (the father of modern chemistry) and Sir Isaac Newton.
