Project MK Ultra began in 1953 by the CIA to find drugs and procedures that could be used to brainwash an individual or weaken them during interrogations. We learn about some of the many program underneath MK Ultra from declassified documents, the full extent of which we may never know. One of the more disturbing programs we know about is Operation Midnight Climax, where a DEA agent was allowed to run an illegal brothel with the blessing of the CIA to dose unknowing ‘Johns’ with LSD and study its effects in the least scientific setting possible. Another program practiced psychological torture in a volunteer based study at Harvard that included none other than Ted Kaczynski which has led some to wonder if this is what drove him to become the unabomber. From the little we know about MK Ultra it makes one wonder what else has been going on behind the seens.
